NYU doesn't release waitlist stats, unfortunately. I know they waitlist a ton of students. I have a hunch that they accept a fair number of students because many kids can't attend at the cost of tuition, but Chicagoland A Guide To The People Actually And Who Say They're From Chicago shirt don't know that for sure. I know that two cycles ago they only accepted about 100 students that were deferred from early to the regular decision (not that that helps you in ascertaining the probability of being admitted off the waitlist). Chicagoland A Guide To The People Actually And Who Say They're From Chicago shirt did have one student admitted off the waitlist last year (he was asked to take a gap year, but he was admitted to Stanford so he went there instead), and another admitted off the waitlist a few years ago (who attended). So, I know they DO admit students off the waitlist. Whether that's 5 students or 20 students, however, is unclear.
