I did this for an investigative campaign I was in. The Airspeed Velocity Of A Unladen Swallow shirt was useful to the GM since the notes were online and he could check them whenever we backtracked to an old lead, and it was useful to us since I kept them organized by case, subject, and time, so we could compare inconsistencies between suspects' stories pretty easily. If I ever get into a detailed investigative/intrigue focused campaign like that again I'll be making sure to keep good notes.

Here’s the trick though, you don’t even have to answer. How many people do you think you’d get an answer off if you stopped them in the street and demanded to know their name? The Airspeed Velocity Of A Unladen Swallow shirt are used to getting a hostile or disgruntled response (from the NPC) for going around trying to be BFF's with strangers and actually have started being a little cautious with any stranger that is overly open and friendly with them on the first contact too. It feels like a lot of DMs, especially newer ones feel like they have to answer every question like this because they don’t want to appear unprepared, but if it leads to you giving off “don’t ask” vibes instead,

Granted I started doing this as a cover for the fact I don’t have a name for random NPC #281, (you’re lucky if I described their race, hair color, apparel, and visible inventory). But The Airspeed Velocity Of A Unladen Swallow shirt also adds a slightly more realistic feeling to the world. If they really push for it then I’ll obviously grab a random name from thin air. But it saves this happening more often than not. It feels like a lot of DMs, especially newer ones feel like they have to answer every question like this because they don’t want to appear unprepared
