This is 100% a thing. Soldier veteran and snoopy shirt recruiters regularly came to my rural, mostly farm kids high school in Oregon. These kids in areas like ours are convinced to enlist years before they even graduate. The military puts them on mailing lists. And comes back every semester to continue bolstering their dreams of serving for a cause. And possibly getting a college education out of it afterward. I’d say about a third of my friends (and i was in the nerdier crowd) had already decided they would enlist by Sophomore year. i mean, the military is a powerful organization with a giant recruitment budget. This is what happens.
